Nine Inch Nails new single "The Hands that feeds" DNB Remix Contest

Here it is, the third installement of mtldnb.com production contest. This time we decided to push the challenge up a notch and do a remix of the Nine Inch Nails new single "The Hands that feeds" for their latest album "With Teeth".

Trent Reznor as recently made public a samplepack containing samples from all individual channels to see what people could do with it. We beleive it will be a great challenge and a rare occasion for lots of members to have acess to this kind of materiel. You can check out the song at www.NIN.com

Hello all, For quite some time I've been interested in the idea of allowing you the ability to tinker around with my tracks - to create remixes, experiment, embellish or destroy what's there. I tried a few years ago to do this in shockwave with very limited results. After spending some quality time sitting in hotel rooms on a press tour, it dawned on me that the technology now exists and is already in the hands of some of you. I got to work experimenting and came up with something I think you'll enjoy. What I'm giving you in this file is the actual multi-track audio session for "the hand that feeds" in .WAV format. This is the entire thing bounced over from the actual Pro Tools session we recorded it into. I imported and converted the tracks into AppleLoop format so the size would be reasonable and the tempo flexible. So... Drag the file over to your hard disk and double click it. Hit the space bar. Listen. Change the tempo. Add new loops. Chop up the vocals. Turn me into a woman. Replay the guitar. Anything you'd like. I gave this to my crew and band to test out and all work effectively stopped for a while - it's fun to mess around with. I've now heard a country version of the track as well as an abstract Latin interpretation (thanks, Leo). There are some copyright issues involved, so read the notice that pops up. [01] Must use ONLY provided samples.
[02] Tracks must be between 5 and 7 minutes in duration.
[03] Tracks must be breakbeat oriented. (Drum n Bass, Jungle, Breaks, IDM, HipHop, Trip Hop, etc...)
[04] Tracks must be submitted by June 30th.
[05] Must be a mtldnb.com board member. If you arent, all you have to do is register. Its free.

Didnt take the time to hunt for prizes again this time but Conner was nice enough to hook us up with a copy of Renoise. Also the nice people at System recordings will once again give some freebies to the TOP5 finalist. Might have more freebies for you if I hire 2 assistant this month which I doubt will happen. This time its first prize winner's choice!

Judgement

There is 2 judging rounds. First one lasts about 2 weeks when board members are invited to vote for their 5 favorite remixes. We then compile the results and the TOP10 favorites move on to the next stage where they will be judge by industry professionnals.

I will not list every sample because there is way to many. The pack contains the 64 samples provided by Trent Reznor + we added 3 classic breaks & a Subtone to make your life easier. You dont need a Mac or GarageBand 2.0 since we converted all the samples to .WAV for you.

Nefertiti's 'love affair' with Moses to hit the silver screen

CAIRO (AFP) - A Hollywood flick on an alleged love affair between pharaonic Queen Nefertiti and the Biblical Prophet Moses is soon to begin shooting in Egypt, renowned British producer John Heyman has revealed to AFP.

'Nefertiti married perhaps one of the first monotheists in history and the film will tell their story, which logically enough should be set in Egypt' said Heyman on a brief visit to Cairo.

'One can find in the Old Testament that Moses and Nefertiti had a relationship,' he added.

The movie will also deal 'with the return to the worship of the sun god,' said Heyman.

He was referring to Aten -- the radiant disk of the sun -- whose cult was briefly re-introduced by Pharaoh Akhenaten, the 10th king of the 18th Dynasty also known as the 'heretic king' for breaking with traditional religion in the 1350s BC.

The cult of Aten is considered by some experts to be a predecessor of modern monotheism.

Scholars generally agree that Nefertiti, often referred to in history as the 'most beautiful woman in the world', was Akhenaten's wife.

But few have argued that Akhenaten and Moses may have been the same man, although there is no consensus on their respective dates of birth and death.

Others contend that Ramses II, the third ruler of the 19th dynasty, was in fact Moses while Jews believe the pharaoh king is responsible for their exodus from Egypt.

And founding father of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud ventured his belief in 'Moses and Monotheism', published in 1939, that Moses was in fact an Egyptian follower of Aten that brought the monotheistic doctrine out of Egypt as Judaism when he led the Israelites away from slavery to freedom some 3,300 years ago."

Wired News: Clouds May Harbor Nanobacteria

Tiny particles linked to a number of painful and sometimes deadly diseases may spread across the globe by hitching a ride in clouds, claim researchers in a recent issue of the Journal of Proteome Research.

The particles, known as nanobacteria, are 100 times smaller than typical bacteria and have been found in kidney stones, arterial plaques and ovarian cancers.

ICR - The Public Diary

Being on the forefront of Hungary's d&b online magazine Impulsecreator for more than 5 years now and producing over this period ICR managed to release tunes on quality labels such as Breakbeat Science, Orgone (Rock The Sky/Stolen Symmetry), Basswerk (Wide Awake), Nerve (Words/Arcadia), Offshore (Change Inside) and Good Looking (Splashdown on Progression Sessions Germany). This year hopefully brings more chance to emerge his talents with forthcoming bits on Fokuz, Nerve, Covert Operations and more. Meanwhile the time has come to summarize and to release a concept album with the essence and the very best of his unique sound.


"On the one hand I felt I have so many tunes - about 70 in the last two years - that I could not release in any form but wanted to make them public. What's the point of making songs only for yourself? On the other hand I felt strongly about letting this all out in the hope of leaving things behind can help starting new things. The only concept is to be sincere, to make a personal collection of sounds whether there is anyone who likes it or not."

All the original tunes are specially edited and/or remixed for this particular project (except Untrue remix, Keynote and Roundabout) as it is reflected in the titles. It's not only diverse drum & bass, but there's a little breakbeat (Break The Sky), downtempo (Hopelyhen, Words v050123), a bit of electronica (Useless) and leftfield too (Switchboard To Your Soul, Mindframe).
