ScienceDaily (Nov. 30, 2007) — Researchers using supercomputer simulations have exposed a very violent and critical relationship between interstellar gas and dark matter when galaxies are born -- one that has been largely ignored by the current model of how the universe evolved.

The background image shows the large-scale cosmic context (the panel is approximately 100,000 light years across); the inset shows the central 2,000 light years of the dwarf galaxy where powerful feedback from newly born star clusters drives bulk motions in the gas. Well here is how you can download SP3 straight from Microsoft. Follow the instructions carefully and you’ll be running Windows XP SP3 in no time. Grab yourself a cup of Coffee as you do this..

Don’t fret too much, this won’t take much time. I can assure you that..

Download this file ( WindowsXPSP3Hack.cmd ). Once you have downloaded the file, login as administrator and run the file by double clicking it. Wait for the Confirmation Message on screen.
The Above file adds a few entries to the Windows Registry that makes Microsoft think that you are a part of the Private beta program.
Check for new updates on Windows Update. You should now see Windows XP SP3 listed in the available updates.
Download and install it. Reboot whenever necessary.

Please note this hack is the exact way Microsoft expects its beta testers to try Windows XP SP3 out, so you don’t have to worry too much about Microsoft catching hold of you.

I tried this on Windows XP Machine and this hack worked like a charm. Let me know if this works for you.. If you can’t wait for Microsoft to release SP3 officially then this hack is for you.

An Ohio man has pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge for being part of a gang of "swatters" -- one of them blind -- who used Caller ID spoofing to phone the police with fake hostage crises, sending armed cops bursting into the homes of innocent people.

Stuart Rosoff of Cleveland, Ohio (right, in a 2004 mugshot) pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy last Friday in federal court in the Northern District of Texas.

The case seems to confirm that swatters are using simple Caller ID spoofing to pull these unfunny hoaxes -- and not "hacking into 911" after all. But the court documents indicate that Rosoff was part of a remarkably sophisticated gang of old-school phone phreaks with serious access to at least one phone company's computers, which they used to get information on their targets.

The alleged brain behind of much of the phone hacking was a minor in Boston, identified in three separate guilty pleas from group members as "M.W." M.W. comes across as a master of social engineering, who had enough access to phone company systems to listen in on calls. He is also blind.

According to a stipulation (.pdf) by Rosoff and prosecutors, Rosoff worked with M.W. to obtain "telephone numbers, pass phrases, employee identification numbers, and employee account information used by the conspirators by various means including through 'social engineering' or pretexting of telephone calls to telecommunications company employees, 'war dialing', trafficking in pass phrases and access information with other phone 'phreakers,' etc."

M.W. allegedly made more that 50 telephone calls to the Verizon Provisioning Center in Irving, Texas, "and obtained unauthorized access to the computers located there, and used the access to obtain telecommunications services including Caller I.D. blocking and call forwarding."

In today’s corporate environment, the topic of information security has become a top concern for several organizations. Due to the various laws and government regulations that have recently been implemented to hold an organization liable for the loss of data, information security is an issue that can no longer be overlooked. Effective information security is comprised of multiple layers of defense which work together to protect information. The premise is that if one layer fails, the following layer will succeed. Often when information security is discussed, the technical layers such as firewalls, software patches, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus programs, and encryption are the only areas addressed. However, an important layer of information security defense that is not given the attention that it deserves is the human layer. The human element is the arguably the most important layer of defense for information security. If an individual with malicious intent is able to effectively bypass the human layer, they can circumvent all of the other defensive layers of information security. The time, money and resources directed towards the other layers of information security defense are wasted if the human layer is breached. Therefore the human layer requires the most attention.

As cellphone use has skyrocketed, making it hard to avoid hearing half a conversation in many public places, a small but growing band of rebels is turning to a blunt countermeasure: the cellphone jammer, a gadget that renders nearby mobile devices impotent.

The technology is not new, but overseas exporters of jammers say demand is rising and they are sending hundreds of them a month into the United States — prompting scrutiny from federal regulators and new concern last week from the cellphone industry. The buyers include owners of cafes and hair salons, hoteliers, public speakers, theater operators, bus drivers and, increasingly, commuters on public transportation.
